Issues
2, 3, 4, & 5 are Bad for Ohio
There
are a mere four weeks to go until the next election day,
Tuesday, November 8, 2005.
Besides all the candidates there are five VERY
important issues. I
wrote in my earlier columns that I am very much in favor
of supporting State Issue One “Jobs for Ohio” which
extends the borrowing power of the State in order to allow
the funding of local roads and bridge repairs and
replacement projects. It also promotes the funding of
high-tech research projects. In the coming weeks, I will
talk a little more about this as space will allow.
Suffice it to say I am HIGHLY in favor of Issue
One. Check out my website for more information if you’d
like.
As
for the next four ballot issues (Issue Two, Issue Three,
Issue Four, Issue Five) I would highly encourage everyone
to vote “NO” on these ballot issues.
These issues were crafted by a radical left wing
group known as “Reform Ohio Now” (aka RON). This group
is funded by out of state groups and people such as George
Soros, the Hungarian born billionaire activist as well as
Stonewall Democrats and Planned Parenthood of Ohio to name
a few. It is
clear they want to hijack Ohio by any means other than our
traditional democratic process.
Through this ballot initiative, they hope to weaken
Ohio’s place in the national election process as well as
tinker with Ohio’s Constitution. Issues
2, 3, 4 and 5 are not reforms. They are 4 giant steps
backwards. They are full of unfair loopholes, hidden costs
and would dramatically reduce accountability to voters.
If
passed, these issues will increase the likelihood of
election fraud as other states have experienced who have
adopted similar proposals.
These issues also will give special interest groups
an unfair advantage in funding political campaigns. The
issues take away Ohioans’ right to vote for the
state’s Chief Elections Officer, the Secretary of State,
by creating a statewide elections board of political
appointees who will never be held accountable to Ohio
voters.
Probably
the most deceptive of the Issues is Issue Four which
removes legislative district drawing and gives it to a
politically appointed board whose members are not required
to meet ANY level of qualification.
It uses a complicated mathematical formula to draw
districts that are as close to even with respect to
republican and democrat make up. Now on the surface, this
sounds like a positive thing. However, think about where
you live and ask yourself what our Ohio House district is
going to look like. It
order to achieve this, the district will have to look like
an octopus with narrow corridors projecting into
Cincinnati where the higher concentrations of democrats
are. In order
to fit the mathematical formula, we could very probably be
represented by someone from the east-end of Cincinnati.
It removes the current language in our state’s
constitution about districts being “compact” so our
representative is literally our neighbor.
Ohio
has been lucky in the past in dodging these attempts to
fool our citizens. Others
states have already succumbed to this form of out of state
intrusion and were duped into voting for something that
looks easy to accept until too late. Take the time to read
about these so you can make an informed decision. In my
next articles I will elaborate on these issues.
