Why vote Republican?

A few weeks ago, you may have read in a local paper a comment that the “winds of political change are coming”.  This was just simply the rhetoric of unsupported hopes from someone who is hoping his political party benefits from the media’s attempt to mislead the public.  The author joined that attempt to mislead others by pretending to be something he is not, a neutral bystander who was “looking for a change” in the political scenery.  Simply saying you are neutral and independent, does not make it so.  Actions speak for themselves.  You cannot say that you are an independent voter when you spend all your available time criticizing the Republican Party on a Democratic Party website.  You cannot be a member of a college Democrat club and then tell people to listen to what you have to say because you are an “independent” voter.  You shouldn’t even claim to be an independent voter if you are not even registered to vote!  The point I am trying to make is this, do not believe everything you hear or read without doing your own cursory investigation.  There is too much readily available information on the web not to find out if someone is trying to fool you into believing something that simply is not true… and it’s the season for attempts at such foolery.

Franklin Roosevelt once said majestically in 1933, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself”. FDR was trying to calm the public that was being needlessly scared by news reports of vast shortages and if the nation cannot shake its pessimistic outlook, it will be impossible to turn things around.  The news reports actually became a self fulfilling prophecy and helped launch this nation into the Great Depression.

And to quote another great President, Ronald Reagan, I have to add, “Now there you go again”.  We have heard from the media for the last two years how “terrible things are” under Republican leadership both in the White House and in Columbus.  Well, lets look at a few things.  After 8 years of hand wringing over a multitude of terrorist strikes against the United States, President Clinton failed to act decisively.  But somehow after only 8 months in office President Bush supposedly failed to stop an attack 5 years in the making.  Then when President Bush DID act decisively with almost unanimous bi-partisan agreement, he is backstabbed by those who would continue to allow terrorism to be treated as a “criminal act” and send a few cops after them instead of the U.S. Military.

After being handed an economy that was already 12 months into a recession, the mainstream media blamed the current President of being responsible.  Did anyone notice the “page 25” news story a few weeks ago that showed how President Clinton hid the actual state of the economy by using “creative accounting”?  At least we are now going to see the federal government use the same accounting procedures from one presidency to the next.

In Columbus last year, instead of reading headlines about how the State Legislature finally passed Medicaid reform, passed tax reform, passed Workers Compensation reform, held spending to a historic low, and gave a 21% income tax reduction, all we read was about a 2-bit second rate huckster who managed to pull the wool over a couple of bureaucrats eyes and got caught with his hands in the cookie jar.  That’s right, the crooks got caught.

By the way, ALL those reforms and tax reductions were voted NO by the democrats.

Let’s not forget how grateful we should be that the highly sophisticated news media uncovered that unspeakable act of failing to report all of the governor’s golf games!  Yes, he was indeed wrong; he is required to account for 100% of those golf games, not 75%.  And yes, all Ohioans were deeply embarrassed in having such a forgetful Governor. But didn’t you get the idea the media and the democrats are more concerned about unreported golf games than national security and the local economy?

Now honestly, after doing just a little homework and finding out the whole truth, don’t you really want to keep leadership with those who have acted in your best interest and said “yes” to this great Nation and State and not with those who merely mock and taunt and say “no” to everything?  Actions really do speak louder than words.
