Bitter Sweet and Joy
The first day of my second term of office began somewhat
bitter sweet. This was my second inauguration, typically
to be sworn in with family present. Two years ago I had
my immediate family as well as extended relatives present
with me. This year, after a holiday weekend party, our
entire family was inflicted with the stomach flu. It was
terrible, everyone got sick. I was one of the first so I
got over it quickest. So, while I traveled to Columbus to
be sworn in, my entire family as well as brothers and
sister, stayed home sick in bed. I resigned myself to the
fact I would simply be sworn in quietly and by myself.
What a way to start the New Year.
Everything changed when I got to the Statehouse. There, a
bus full of 33 senior citizens from the Milford Thursday
Morning Group with Bill Knepp including Miami Township
Trustee Mary Wolff arrived for a tour. I had already setup
a small reception to greet them then off they went for a
tour of the Statehouse. At the appointed time for my
swearing in, they arrived to watch. When I told Speaker
Jon Husted that no one else would be joining me due to
illness, he motioned the seniors along with Mary Wolff and
my cousin Gayle Stock to gather around me right there on
the floor of the House Chamber. My aunt had come along
with the seniors so she was asked to hold the Bible while
I was sworn in to serve the citizens of Ohio’s 66th
House District. It was good to have so many friends to
share the experience with.
This new General Assembly faces a difficult path and many
issues will come before us commanding our attention. Our
first task will be to assemble another two-year state
budget. This will take most of the next 6 months.
Equally important will be focusing on the revitalization
of our economy including job creation. I am looking
forward to the challenge of working with the new Governor
and his new administration.
I take very seriously the Oath of office administered to
me and witnessed by dozens of our district citizens. I
have high hopes that we can all work together to preserve,
protect, and improve Ohio. I plan to focus on the issues
that concern you but I can only know your interest if you
inform me of those that concern you most. Please feel
free to contact me or my Legislative Aide at any time.
