Legislator’s Summer Activities: It’s going to be a
busy summer!
Summer is here and although the General Assembly is not
in session, we still have plenty of work to do. I have
been meeting with constituents in my district and
helping them with individual problems and issues. I
also have been meeting with others not from my district
who are just looking for help in various areas of
possible changes in laws they feel are needed. It has
been very interesting and probably the best part of this
job. I have several projects that I will be working on
this summer that very well may take the entire summer
and most of the fall to gather the information necessary
to see if changes to the law can be made. These
“projects” are for the most part in the area of school
funding. Right now I am just having “interested party”
meetings with various groups to see if certain changes
are even able to be accomplished. Most of my projects
have come from emails from constituents who simply have
asked if something is possible. One never knows what is
possible until an idea is struck, and then meetings are
assembled, and then the idea is talked about.
Summers are not just filled with meetings here in the
district. I typically travel to Columbus at least once
a week. Last Thursday I traveled to the Statehouse in
order to witness a bill that I sponsored signed into lay
by the Governor. House Bill 56 will make it easier for
property owners who rent space to manufactured home
owners to regain use of their property should the
renters skip town.
The
very next day I traveled back up to my Columbus office
to meet with a very talented young lady, Hayley Madden,
a soon to be sixth grader from McCormick Elementary
School whose painting of beech trees in a forest was
selected to be put on display in the Riffe Building in
Columbus where all the legislators have their offices.
It hangs in the hall way outside my office for all to
see and Hayley wanted her Grandmother, Deborah Madden of
Gahanna to view it. Traveling with Hayley was her
brother Troy and her Aunt, Dana Viglietta of
Reynoldsburg.
Another very important event that I took part in was
last Saturday at a meeting with the Governor and some
very special out of town guests who are looking at
Clermont County to relocate their company. Yes, the
Governor came all the way down here to spend the morning
with these folks and to promote Ohio and Clermont County
as a great place to have a business. The possibility of
attracting yet another major corporate headquarters is
very promising. I am sure there will be more
information on this in the near future.
For those who missed it, last Sunday’s fair parade was
another success with about the best weather I can
remember. The county fair is in full swing and a great
experience for folks of all ages. It just isn’t a
complete summer until the whole family has gone to an
Ohio County Fair. You’ve got to experience it at least
once.
As always, if there are any additional comments you
would like to make, or questions to ask, please feel
free to contact me.
